17 April, 2002, IITR Approved

25 April, 2002, IPC Approved

2 May, 2002, Faculty Approved

In order to ensure that the technology equipment and software at LaGrange College is compatible with the campus network, LaGrange College Information staff support abilities, technology related purchases must be made in consultation with Information Systems.  These purchases cover acquisitions using any LaGrange College funds both capital and operational.

Technology related equipment includes computers, computer peripherals such as drives, adapter and video cards, printers and scanners, computer accessories such as keyboards and mice, display and projection devices and network hardware.  Software includes but is not limited to operating systems, office productivity applications, network and database applications, utilities and specialized applications.  Printer supplies must also be purchased through Information Systems, so that the College may benefit from the economy of scale and verified quality of supplies.  The IS staff will not be held accountable for support of printers using unapproved supplies.

Consultation with the Information Systems staff will consist of placing a request with the Director of Information Systems, who will consult the IS staff.  The Director may either approve the purchase or may make recommendations for the acquisition of alternative hardware or software.  If the recommendations are not amenable to the department or unit requesting, the requester may appeal to the Instructional and Information Round Table (IITR).

The Information Systems staff will support hardware acquired under this policy by installing the hardware and ensuring proper operation and compatibility with other devices to which it is attached.  Support includes troubleshooting and assistance with identification of external repair vendors when repairs are beyond the ability or time resources of the Information Systems staff.  The cost of repairs to equipment purchased with departmental or unit funds is the responsibility of that unit or department.

The Information Systems staff will support software purchased under this policy by assisting in the installation of the software and troubleshooting the operation of the software for compatibility and coexistence with other software on the computer on which the software is installed and the network.

The IITR will annually approve a list of fully supported software for LaGrange College.  The Information Systems staff will support software on this list as indicated in the previous paragraph and will provide training and functional support for use of the software on the approved list.  The list of approved software will be made available to the College community on an Information Systems web page.

Installation of software or hardware owned by individuals on computers owned by the College requires approval from the Director of Information Systems or the IITR.  Purchase of software or hardware without IS consultation may result in refusal of support and/or reprimand from supervisors.
