Committee Structure proposal

To be considered at the Faculty Institute, August 2005

In order to better reflect and serve the interests of the faculty, as well as insure equitable divisional representation, continuity, and productivity on the DEC, the committee proposes the following:

The Development and Evaluation Committee (DEC) is composed of five faculty members, all elected from among the faculty.  Each division has one tenured representative, elected for a two-year term.  Elections for these divisional positions are staggered, with the Humanities and Fine Arts divisions electing new representatives in odd years, and the Professional and Math/Science divisions electing new representatives in even years.  Each year an additional non-tenured representative is also elected; the nontenured representative serves a one-year term.

This is a change from the phrasing in the current handbook, which says:

The Development and Evaluation Committee (DEC) is composed of five faculty

members, three of whom are elected for staggered two-year terms; the remaining

members are appointed by the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean and

the President.
