Frequently Asked Questions
Can the tutors help me with WebAssign?
Yes! If your assignment is online (like WebAssign), the tutors will be able to assist you with the actual assignment, and will also work similar problems with you so that you really learn the content.
What if the posted times don't work for me?
We have tutoring by appointment available as well! Tutoring by appointment is currently available in every course that we regularly tutor. These appointments can be scheduled online using the above appointment link.
Who can get tutoring help?
Everyone who is a LaGrange College student! We receive all kinds of students who seek help -- including students who are struggling in their courses, as well as students who just want a bit of additional guidance.
But what if people see me getting help?
Great! Maybe they will see that they aren't alone in their struggles. Everyone has difficulties in their courses from time to time. Seeking help when help is needed is smart!
What should I bring with me?
Bring everything that you need in order to work on and understand the assignment! This includes the textbook, class notes, writing utensil, and attempts that you have made on the assignment already, and possibly items such as calculators. Please bring your computer with you if you need help with an online assignment. The tutors will work with you on the topics that are challenging, so that you can work on the assignment (and future exams!) on your own. This is why it is so important to bring your textbook with you!
How much time should I allow?
A typical meeting at the Tutoring Center takes around 30 minutes. No session should last longer than one hour.
How much does it cost me?
Nothing! The tutors are compensated by LaGrange College through work study.
Are there accomodations for online courses? What if I can't get to campus?
No problem! All you have to do is call the Tutoring Center during our regular hours and someone can tutor you over the phone. If you can't make it work during regular hours, then you can schedule a phone appointment (using the appointment form on the website), and one of our tutors will be able to help you over the phone at a time that will be more convenient for you.
Who are the tutors?
The student workers in the Tutoring Center are current LC students who excel in particular fields of study. These students have been recommended by faculty members in those fields, and have been trained to help in the Tutoring Center.
How can I become a tutor?
You need the recommendation of your professor in the field you are interested in tutoring. Have that teacher contact the director of the tutoring center, and if there is a need for your services, we will let you know.
What if I need writing help?
The Tutoring Center functions separately from the Writing Center at LaGrange College. Please see the LC Writing Center for more information.
